Where's Peter Griffin when you need him?

Posted April 1, 2007.

Our last couple days of our first stint in Antigua involved more Appleton rum consumption, swimming, girl-on-horse watching, spliff-rolling and cricket. The Australia v Bangladesh game turned out to be somewhat of a fizzer, after being reduced to virtually a 20-20 game due to rain. Well, it wasn’t even rain really, as the scorching sun was out and knocking us all around. It was the fact that the ground’s drainage wasn’t the most efficient, after a small amount of overnight rain. So what did they bring out to soak up the on-ground fluids? Sponges probably no bigger than 30cm squared. Awesome. Needless to say, all the Aussies at the ground were completely plastered by the time play was underway. The swimming pool over in the party stand had also developed a slight yellow tinge by this time too.

This shot pretty much sums up the Australian tourist atmosphere here in the Caribbean. Of course, that's one of our own, passed out at the front of the stage.

The night before this, I don’t think I have ever been so stoned in my life. The only occasion is probably “Lismore: Boys on tour ‘06” – the Nimbin episode. Only this time, I didn’t abuse someone’s mother. But yes, we were destroyed. We literally couldn’t move from the sand for at least an hour, with the clouds above, our only entertainment. Not a word was spoken between us. We couldn’t even muster the energy or coordination to try. When we finally regained some form of human state, we decided fish and chips was in order. So we stumbled to the fish and chip shack behind the beach. Our only obstacle was a, what seemed like at the time, massive mud patch. Instead of simply walking around it, I trudged through it, became literally stuck in it, and when attempting to rescue one of my legs from the thick mud, I fell completely flat into the mud. The onlooking customers at the shack were instantly made aware of our collective state. Of course, paranoia set in, but it was no obstacle to us demolishing that food in under 3 minutes before somehow navigating our way back to our villa and passing out. The only downside was that there was no Family Guy to lull us into unconsciousness.

Andy rekindling some old flames. Again, I just watched.

It turns out this was just a rehearsal for what was to come in Jamaica…

McG- when you fell in the mud did you stand up and were all brown apart from two blinking eyes like in a cartoon, and when your eyes were shut was it impossible to see you?
